This time I won't be waiting for Comic Quest to bring in the "miracle price" Play Arts. I'm getting one asap. July, all in time for my birthday. Add the Narika 1/6 figure, and it's a ninja mania this July.
Though I think Yuffie looks better in FFAC, this one also has a cute look it.

Parang mejo sakang si yuffie jan sa version na yan.
kamadoma
8th March 2008 - 08:17 AM
I think the sakang thing might be a result of crappy posing (remember how new Transformers pics have they toys transformed the wrong way), or because of the knee joints. FFAC version has her wear long boots so the joints are more concealed, as opposed to this version. And yeah, we still do not know what's with the weird thingy on her right butt side.

It's a good thing there are a lot of import toy dealers now, I remember back in 1997 and 1998, there was this store that sold both videogames and videogame related toys and hardware, 2nd flr Virra mall, (forgot na the name but it was not Comic Alley to give them credit)but it sure as hell sold a lot of the figures at astronomical prices...........Red XIII at Php 3,000(!)
Is that scalping or what? And the errhm staff weren't customer friendly too.
kamadoma
8th March 2008 - 10:05 AM
Technically since they're a store, they have the freedom to dictate the prices, no matter how high they fly, or no matter how much it's such an irritating sight to us collectors.
The term "scalping" actually refers to people buying tickets and reselling them at a marked up price. Like what happened in the TF Movie toys, people would buy more than what they need, and sell them at higher prices. Some store owners do that as well even if they already have their own sources (which I think is really a low blow to collectors who just want one). As far as "hoarding" is concerned, it's basically getting lots of items you don't need with possible plans of reselling them in the future, so we shouldn't confuse both terms.
So as not to trample over anyone, I will not post any names of those scalper stores and owners.
I think the common price of FF Play Arts is around 1800-1900 in most hobby shops, since the Japanese Play Arts (distributed by Organic) cost more or less around 4,000 yen apiece.
What I'm confused about is that why would some Play Arts figures cost around 1,800-1,900 Php if they are the International Version (distributed by Diamond Comics), which is relatively cheaper, which is why Comic Quest can sell them as low as 1,180 Php.
I guess it's just business. Nonetheless I'm getting that Yuffie.
Genesis Rhapsodos
8th March 2008 - 07:36 PM
Kamadoms, I actually haven't seen any Japanese versions nowadays. I only saw Japanese versions of DQ8, FMA and FFVII-AC series 1.
...but anyhow, dang those Scalpers! (LOL) I spent about 64k in total to all my PA's wherein I'm just supposed to spend less than 30k if they sell it in the US version price!

Rikku from FFX-2 also has bow-legs.
1800 each?! Aaaack, I'll get the Cloud and Hardy Daytona first. I'll be saving up for these on May and June.

On July 2008, I'll get the whole set (which may cost more or less Php 8000.00) so I guess Comic Quest will be the ideal store to get them...but which branch do you recommend? Is there a CQ in Greenhills?
kamadoma
8th March 2008 - 08:03 PM
There's a CQ in Megamall.
Genesis Rhapsodos
8th March 2008 - 08:45 PM
Umm, yes. That one near Filbars and the food court.
Thanks, Kamadoma-kun but the last time that I checked there, they only have Reno, Aerith (2300!) and Balthier (1500) but I already have them. Maybe their Play Arts sell faster.

Haaay, Square-Enix should seriously forget about releasing those Last Remnant and Star Ocean 4 Play Arts and just focus on crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Play Arts (Angeal, Mr. G and ZACK!) WAG KA NA, SEPHIROTH. SUMOSOBRA KA NA!!!

don't even worry about CC. basta FFVII related love ng SE. i bet kahit CC cloud magkakaroon.
Genesis Rhapsodos
9th March 2008 - 08:55 PM
Then, if Cloud (CC) would be included then who will be left out? Its supposed to be a standard set of 3, right? OMG, not Angeal! Not the childhood sweetheart (LOL).
At any rate, I can feel that Red XIII will be the most popular of the FFVII line. Because even little brats would get fascinated with it because Kids love articulated beasts AND RED'S MOUTH CAN BE CLOSE-OPEN! (Close open! Close open! That childish song is chiming in my head right now). Sorry kids but Play Arts are for teens and up.

If I can't get the set at once, my priority would have to be:
1. Red XIII and Cait Sith - The reason is mentioned above.
2. Yuffie Kisaragi - Several members have already expressed interest with the klepto-rose among the thorns and Yuffie is the first green-toned Play Arts. She'd definitely add a new hue.
3. Vincent Valentine - Quasi-vampire with coat intact.
4. Sephiroth - Oh come on...

hey. FFVII series 2 has 4 figures. FFXII has 4 figures. so deviating from the standard set of 3 is very much possible.

Yeah, yeah. That would be stemming from the fact that Square-Enix wants to stop Gackt from ruling the world of action figures, but the awesome rapier...we shouldn't be deprived of the chance to have it!

My prediction w/ these upcoming figs is that yuffie and red xiii will be the first ones to be bought...
And perhaps Vincent coz i only seen a little of the FF7AC figs, and some of those who havent bought that version will be forced to buy this one.
For sephiroth, i guess he will be the last one out...

23rd May 2008 - 08:50 PM
Ok, I'll take note of that.
Yea. There's very little differences with the AC and Game Edition Sephiroth figures.
Just that the AC Sephiroth is "belt-abusive"

As for Vincent...I wonder what he'd look with the game edition figure + Cerberus gun. That'd might be awesome!

Actually, the Japanese and American versions have little to no difference.
However, nowadays, there are no JP/US versions anymore but rather international versions (based on the writings on the box). The reason why they're more expensive in the GH stores is perhaps they catch up to the hype and they get their stocks much earlier.
@Maldit0

Yuffie looks awesome. And her posability on the base won't be much affected since she has lesser clothing in the abdomenal section. It kinda annoys me how her clothing in the FF7AC version keeps getting in the way of the clamp.

"Japanese releases" come at the same month as the release in Japan (a month later, American releases come out) but I do believe nowadays there is no such thing as a Japanese release anymore. All of them have the Diamond Collectors Distributor Logo at the back, including those in Japan. There had been no changes to the prices in the Philippine Toy Market either. Still above Php 1500 each.

But they're really great.. I notice no one seems to notice my question on the last page...
kamadoma
12th June 2008 - 09:09 AM
About the manufacturer? I think either versions are made in China. So I really dunno if there should be a distinction between International and Japan release.
I think it's hobby shops that make these issues exaggerated. Once they know an item is a "Japan version", they usually rack up the prices like they did to those Transformers movie toys, which were basically the same ones used by Hasbro, only with a sticker of the Transformers movie logo in kana.
maldit0
12th June 2008 - 09:41 AM
I agree with Kamadoma. I think gimmick lang talaga yun ng mga sellers so that they can charge more for the same fig. I used to think na mas maganda ang quality ng Jap version compare to Int'l versions. Di pala.

12th June 2008 - 09:53 AM
Yup that's right. I got me an International release of Yuffie from FF7AC and she looks awesome. If there'd be people saying that "Oooh I saw the Japanese version and it looks better", the answer is QUALITY CONTROL.

I prefer the japan made version cause of the quality. Ever since the international version... I was inform by other collectors friends of mine that, there is an all japan box.
Thank you for taking the time to answer. I been disturb by this really.. Most Of my ff playarts are japan box.. Only ashe was the international box I have. ( it was a gift from my Girlfriend.)So there is really o just japan &/or US box ff existing. Just the international box.

Ladies and gentlemen, the box art of Final Fantasy VII Play Arts volume 2:

Vincent and Sephiroth is my low priority in the FFVII line. If only I've got that much money or have a work, I can get all four at the same time. How sad that I don't.

To be honest, each weapon set is HARD TO FIND. Once you see it in the stores, buy it/reserve it or regret it for the rest of your collecting lifespan. I can feel that Kingdom Hearts Weapon Set will not be hard to find but H3LL TO FIND.
